Alan Bain …aka “AB”
I was the first DJ to work a live on-air shift at KBER in the early Spring of 1986. In the beginning we had ONE turntable and thus we had a bit of dead-air, or had to talk while we cued up another record. Ah the good old days of vinyl. Later that year CDs came into fashion but originally all of our music came to us on vinyl records…..and I still have a boatload in my personal collection.
I was the ONLY DJ to last the first 10 years of KBER’s existence. I did every shift on KBER but lasted the longest (about 7 years) doing Mid-Days (M-F 10am-3pm). I was the host of a Heavy Metal show originally called “Metal Health with Dr. Rock” but the boss decided he didn’t want the show called anything Metal. Wait a minute it was a Metal Show! Oh well, I changed the name to “the Rock Clinic with Dr. Rock”. Man did we have a bunch of fun! Nurse, Suction!
Through the years I got to meet many great artists, and a few A**holes, too. Dr. Rock brought in many Heavier concerts and we all raged together at various spots in town including the
I was welcomed back into the KBER fold about 4 years ago, so of KBER’s 22 year history I can account for 14 of those years. It sure is great to reconnect with my listeners and friends that I’ve developed along the way.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE:
Concerts – Red Hot Chili Peppers opening for Oingo Boingo at Wolf Mt. (My 1st concert ever was CCR in the
Albums – Montrose
Bands – Led Zeppelin followed closely by Savatage
Female Rockers – Pat Benatar
Days of KBER history – the day we moved from 106.5 on the dial to the mighty 101.1. KBER and
After Hours Party – with Frank Hannon of Tesla following a Sugar Bear search which he helped judge with band-mate Brian Wheat. Can you say Mas Tequila?!
KBER interviews – actually the interview that never happened with Ronnie James Dio. Our GM kicked him outta the building because he went to another station earlier that day even though KBER was presenting the concert. How embarrassing! But, later that night back stage Ronnie was so accommodating and acted like it was no big deal. I’m still pissed at that General Manager!
KBER events – Windsurfathon at Rockport Reservoir
KBER VIP
People who have become good friends due to KBER – Chris Haggin now the PA voice of the
Songs – Batman by Mucky Pup. This song lost me my job as Dr. Rock.
All the best my friends/listeners. Keep rockin! And when axked how do I rock? It’s always…I Rock Long & Hard on KBER 101. See Ya! AB*
